Description

    • The building of the new Mercedes-Benz museum looks like a brezel with three loops. Elevators in the atrium illuminated by daylight bring visitors up to the start of the exhibition. From there the visitors walk down through the inner landscape of the building. Various situations of light make the way down a special experience.
The sleek metal-surface of the façade is continued in the shiny varnished floor of the museum, which merges partly into the walls and the ceiling. Grey exposed concrete contrasts the shiny areas and takes back the architecture behind the exhibition pieces again.
A cunning light-planning makes the ceilings of the exhibition rooms look bright like the sky. Light fields that can be turned in different directions create spots of splendor, the so called “Clouds”, and so draw attention to the exhibits.
At night the museum itself is a source of light from the outside. The windows illuminated from the inside show visitors the way to the museum, which also at daylight stands out of its surrounding impressively.
