Description

    • With the consolidation of various libraries in Dresden (Saxon State Library and University Libraries), a new building was needed. The result is the "Saxon State Library - Dresden State and University Library" short SLUB. The new building was built between 1999 -2003 on the plans of Architekurbüros Ortner + Ortner. The ensemble consists of three cubes. Only two of the three cubes are visible above the ground, the third building (Reading Room) is located under the earth and is lit by a glass roof. The facade of the buildings is made of travertine. The facade is modeled on a shelf with books standing in it. The additional association with a bar code is also desirable. It symbolizes the digital information age.
